For those of you who are here, welcome. For those of you who have not arrived yet, please get here soon. Today has been a great day of interesting people, fun encounters, and wonderful programs. The preconferences were great and I’m sure were very informative. I spent my time with a great volunteer named Chuck, who took some really wonderful videos for us to post on youtube. Our youtube channel, in case you don’t know, is TexasLibraryAssoc. It’s pretty amazing.

Some of you have been asking me about transportation and parking. Well, there are many options for both!
Let’s talk about parking first. There are several options. Parking on the street is one. Here is a link with a map of all the parking garages in downtown: http://www.fortworthparking.com/Places/Downtown. Please note the large space below 7th street, next to where Commerce curves. That is the convention center. If you click on the parking garage, the pricing comes up. (I really like this website.)

This will be our last installment of “Programs You Might Not Know About.” Are you wondering how I came up with these programs? I took them from the catalog and looked at some of the programs people were interested in attending and compiled a list of cool things people didn’t really know were going on. Let’s get started with today’s list.

I know I promised there would be another installment on Saturday, but I went home on Friday and forgot all my blog post information! I know! I need something to store information on, something small…. I know! A flash drive! Good thing they will be selling them at the TLA Store!
Today, let’s talk about Library Management. I know what you are all thinking. “Library Management is so boring! Can’t we talk about a fun program like the one with the woman who starred in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding?” Yes, I know it can be tedious, but someone has to keep the lights one and everyone paid.

Today, let’s talk about programs that deal with the community. This can mean where we live, who we see at the library, our organization, and many other aspects of what we do. We talk to, help, and encourage our community every day. Why not throw in some programs that might help?

I’m sure you have all been getting e-mails about some of the great programs your round table or committee is offering. I know I’m super excited about a few of them. For the next few days, I’m going to be highlighting a few programs you may not have known about.
Demystify TLA Finances: Friday 1pm-1:50pm. Do you know where your TLA dues go? Do you know what the rules are? Are you on a committee or round table and just want to know how to read the financial report? This is the session for you!

"Have you downloaded this year’s TLA Conference app? You may have noticed the “Downloads” and “Conference Resources” sections and wondered about printing from your phone while at the conference. There is indeed a way to do this by sending the document to your email account as an attachment. Selecting the document brings up an offer to Download/Open, Email, or Cancel. Sending it to your email account with the email option allows you to access it from the Internet Room computers and print it from there.

I know I’ve talked before about volunteering, but it’s really important. Do you want to know how I have been on several cool TLA committees? Do you want to know how I get to present so much at conference? Do you want to know how I meet tons of very cool authors, and some really awesome publishers? I started off by volunteering! Every year is different and every year is fun and exciting. You can volunteer for a wide variety of things including the authors area, registration, communications (with me), health events, and so much more!
