The 85th session of the Texas Legislature came to an end on Monday, May 29 with Senate and House leaders pointing fingers and casting blame on which chamber bears responsibility for the fact that a special session is likely to be called.

Support Library Funding: Contact TX Senators Cornyn & Cruz Today!

May 19 is the deadline for US Senators to sign the letters supporting LSTA and IAL funding.

Thanks to your efforts generating support in the House of Representatives for FY 2018 LSTA and IAL funding in the form of Member signatures on our champions’ “Dear Appropriator” letters, we succeeded in topping last year’s signer totals by 14% for IAL and a fabulous 64% for LSTA, netting a full third of all House Members on each letter!

TLA Statement on President Trump's Proposal to Eliminate Federal Library Funding


To fund increased military spending and tax cuts, President Trump’s America First: A Budget to Make America Great Again eliminates funding for libraries and museums, as well as arts, humanities and cultural programs. Collectively, these programs account for less than 0.5% of the national budget.
