It is the last week of the 85th Texas Legislative Session and we are down to the wire! 

Two library-related bills are on the House Calendar tomorrow, Tuesday, May 23 which is the last day the House may pass Senate bills.

Please call your representative today and ask that they vote FOR these bills. Here’s the link to find out who represents you.

2017 Texas Library Association Awards

Update on Executive Director Search Process

The TLA Executive Director Search Committee, chaired by TLA 2016-2017 President Walter Betts, received more than 40 applications. Of the seven candidates selected at the first screening stage, four submitted Phase 1 materials which included a writing piece and a webinar. A focus group of 14 TLA membership representatives and the Search Committee participated in the Phase 1 evaluation.

Support Library Funding: Contact TX Senators Cornyn & Cruz Today!

May 19 is the deadline for US Senators to sign the letters supporting LSTA and IAL funding.

Thanks to your efforts generating support in the House of Representatives for FY 2018 LSTA and IAL funding in the form of Member signatures on our champions’ “Dear Appropriator” letters, we succeeded in topping last year’s signer totals by 14% for IAL and a fabulous 64% for LSTA, netting a full third of all House Members on each letter!

TALL Texans Class of 2017

The Texas Library Association is proud to announce the TALL Texans Leadership Development Institute Class of 2017. These 24 individuals were selected from a pool of dynamic Texas library leaders to study strategic planning, risk-taking, conflict negotiation, persuasion, coaching, ethics, personal career planning, and more.

Help Save Federal Library Funding

At least $210 million in federal library funding is at risk thanks to President Trump's proposal to eliminate the Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) and cut $27 million for Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) administered by the Department of Education.

2017 Election Results

The following individuals were elected in the 2017 election conducted by Survey and Ballot Systems, Inc. (SBS), an independent third party. In addition to the TLA Executive Board election, five units opted to participate in TLA's online election system. These newly-elected individuals will assume office at the close of the 2017 conference in San Antonio.
