TLA Executive Director Announces Retirement

On Friday, January 6, Texas Library Association (TLA) Executive Director Patricia H. (Pat) Smith announced her retirement effective June 30. She has led the country’s largest state library association since 1987.

TEA Releases Preliminary ESSA Public Survey Results

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released preliminary results of a recently completed online survey regarding the state’s implementation of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This preliminary report contains only the raw data output from the survey without any interpretation of the results. In addition, the documents contains only responses to the quantitative questions, the open-ended comment data will be analyzed and presented in a final report.

TEA ESSA Survey Talking Points

The TLA's Joint Task Force on ESSA developed messaging to support the importance of effective school library programs to be used in responding to the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) online ESSA survey. The deadline for completing the ESSA Public Input Survey is November 18.
