There are a myriad of names and titles for library workers providing services for constituents other than adults as well as both core and advanced roles and responsibilities; and specialty and unique competencies (skills sets, attributes, etc.) We will focus on five categories:

  • what's now, what's new and what's next;
  • planning for and communicating successfully with patrons, parents and caregivers (ex. terminology, critical knowledge needed including developmental levels, basic teaching/learning categories and matching teaching to learning;)
  • dealing with difficult situations (ex. coping with disruptive behavior)
  • legal issues (ex. patron access, latchkey kids.); and
  • local policies and procedures.

This webinar is helpful information for not only those who work directly with and are primarily responsible for age-level services, but for those who manage in this area or who work with these patrons when children's and youth workers are not present.
