ATRT Stipends
Stipend Guidelines
The Automation and Technology Round Table (ATRT) of the Texas Library Association will make available one stipend of $700 for library employees who are involved in library automation and technology services to attend the TLA Conference and Annual Assembly. The purpose of this stipend is to encourage membership and participation in TLA and ATRT for those who are new or newly-new to the library technology field and to TLA. The Recipient will gain insight into the Automation and Technology Round Table by volunteering during the conference.

Requirements
The basic requirements of a person applying for the stipend:
- Involvement in library automation and technology activities.
- Membership in TLA; the stipend may be used to pay for membership if the stipend winner is not already a member.
- Membership in the Automation and Technology Round Table; a part of the stipend may be used towards membership if stipend winner is not already a member.
- Attendance at and recognition at ATRT's annual business meeting during the TLA conference.
- Must agree to attend ATRT's business meeting at annual assembly, if that part of the stipend is accepted.
- Volunteer four hours during the TLA Conference at ATRT sponsored activities -- the Technology Showcase or the Net Fair.
- Submit a report evaluating the TLA Conference, telling whether it fulfilled your expectations and what, if anything, you learned that you will be able to put to use in your library. This report must be written and submitted to the ATRT Chair within 30 days of the conference.
- Serve on the ATRT Stipend Committee for the 2013 Conference.
- Expectation of ongoing interest in and involvement with ATRT activities.
Timeline: Stipend Committee will use the following timeline as a guide for its work:
- October 4, 2011 -- Application form will be made available electronically via the web, Adobe PDF, or a Microsoft Word version.
- January 27, 2012 (5 pm) -- Application Deadline; application and letters of recommendation from immediate supervisors must be sent via FAX or email.
- February 27, 2012 -- Notification; stipend winner and other applicants will be notified by this date. The ATRT Chair for Volunteer Assignments and the TLA Office will also be notified.
- April 17-20, 2012 -- TLA 2012 Conference; stipend winner is introduced at ATRT Business Meeting.
- May 20, 2012 -- Report Due: Stipend winner will submit his/her Conference Report to the ATRT Chair no later than this date.
Evaluation of Applications
The following guidelines shall be used when reviewing the applications:
- The applicant demonstrates interest in professional development. Attendance at workshops will be a criterion.
- The applicant shows commitment to library automation and technology.
- The applicant has good written communication skills and expresses her/himself well.
- Consideration will only be given to applicants who are new or are newly-new to the TLA Conference activities
- An attempt will be made to award stipends to applicants from libraries in all parts of the state and to applicants from different types of libraries.
- Applications are encouraged from both professional and support library staff.
Funds
One-half of the conference stipend ($300) shall be made available to the stipend winners prior to the TLA Conference. The winners shall contact the TLA office for this advance in order to defray conference expenses. The remaining funds ($300) will be awarded upon receipt of the Conference Report by the ATRT Chair. The $100 stipends for the TLA Annual Assembly will be awarded upon confirmation of attendance at Annual Assembly.
