Minutes of the Reference Roundtable, TLA April 5, 1984 3:00 p.m.
Susan Hancock presided over the 3:00 p.m. business meeting April 5, 1984. The business meeting followed the program on "Bibliographic Instruction in the Electronic Age." There were approximately 60 members present for the business meeting. The 1983 minutes were read and approved as read. The Treasurer reported a balance on hand of $859.05 There were 407 members of the Roundtable at the end of March, 1984. Old Business: Reports on Bibliographic Efforts. Charles Smith reported receiving a letter/announcement for a Texas Periodical Index postmarked from the Dallas area. There was no response to his letter of inquiry about the index. The Red River Index is still being published. Its editors have invited the TLA Bibliographic Committee to be an advisory committee for them. The TLA committee has not done any "advising" to date. Lois Bebout reported on the status of Texas Reference Sources. The 1984 supplement had over 800 titles submitted for inclusion. It was cut to 700 titles (approximately 130 pages). She proposed that a new edition be published combining the 1975, 1978, 1984 editions and supplements included in Texas Library Journal. Subject editors for the various editions were recognized if they were present. Some have been involved with the project from the very beginning. New Business: The nominating committee presented a proposed slate of officers for the coming year. They asked for nominations from the floor. There were none. Evans Library, Texas A&M University, College Station Nominating Committee Judith Droessler - Science and Technology Reference Librarian, Sterling C. Evans Library, Texas A&M University, College Station Janet Kent - Information Services Librarian, Victoria Public Library Paula Kugle - Reference Librarian, Humanities, Houston Public Library Margaret Rose - Reference Back-up Librarian, South Texas Library System New Officers for 1984-85 Vice-chair/Chair-elect - Marta Lange Secretary-Treasurer - Joanne Connelly Nominating Committee - Judy Droessler, Janet Kent, Margaret Rose Judy Droessler gave a brief Counselor's report. The move of the TLA Office from Houston to Austin will be during the summer of 1984. Jean Dixon, the featured speaker for the 1984 convention, was canceled. Barbara Bush will give the speech at the final general session. Everyone must be in and seated by 2:15 even though the session doesn't begin until 2:30. This is for security reasons. The Friday Counselors Meeting will deal with resolutions on Intellectual Free- dom and matters to be brought to the attention of the Legislative Committee. Complete minutes of all TLA business meetings will appear in the summer issue of Texas Library Journal.
