Purpose of the Round Table:

Quoted in a letter from Pat Murphey to Richard L. O’Keeffe,
President of the Texas Library Association, March 11, 1974. (Texas State Archives)

SMART (the Supervision, Management, and Administration Round Table) "is a means of staying professionally aware and informed. Such a Round Table can be an excellent vehicle for continuing education. Utilizing not only library personnel, but others in management, finance, business administration, automation, networking, audio-visual, education, etc., seminars and mini-courses can be offered to members. Although the format of our annual conference has changed to accommodate the mini-course and seminar, there needs to be an opportunity for administrators to get together and discuss common problems and needs. I like to think that by offering a relevant Round Table, we can enhance the true value of our association with TLA.”
