ASSESSING E-RESOURCE USAGE: A PRE-CONFERENCE
On Tuesday, April 24, 2002 from 1:00-5:00pm, the Acquisitions and Collection
Development Round Table will sponsor a pre-conference on assessing the usage of
electronic resources in libraries at the Texas Library Association Conference in
Dallas. Carol Pitts Diedrichs will discuss electronic journals and the work that
she is doing at Ohio State and OhioNet. Ms. Diedrichs is Assistant Director for
Technical Services and Collections at Ohio State University Libraries. Dennis
Dillon, Assistant Director for Collections and Information Resources at the
General Libraries at the University of Texas in Austin will discuss electronic
books.
This pre-conference will inform those in attendance about how libraries
across the country are analyzing customer usage and how these statistics can
assist in collection management, collection development and the design of
customer services. Why gather statistics if you can’t apply the results to the
library’s need to manage collections and the customers’ needs for information?
Come and bring your questions and concerns about these topics.
The cost for the pre-conference is $75 for TLA members and $90 for non-TLA
members.
INPUT NEEDED: ARE ELECTRONIC RESOURCES MANAGEABLE?
Have you ever wondered, "How am I ever going to manage all the library’s
electronic resources?" Electronic resources are effective tools for research and
are highly requested by our customers, yet they are expensive and pose new
problems for collection development librarians. Jetta Todaro will facilitate a
panel discussion on the pros and cons of electronic resources and solutions to
the problems raised by them. The panelists include: Abby Kratz, Director, Texas
A & M Library, Corpus Christi; Melinda Townsel, Reference Librarian, Austin
Community College and Deborah Duke, Collection Management Administrator, Ft.
Worth Public Library. The program will held on Thursday, April 25th from
1:00-1:50 p.m.
To help our panelists prepare for the conference and to insure that topics
discussed are related to your concerns, Chair-Elect, Carol Kelley is asking for
input from members of the Collection Development and Acquisitions Round Table.
If you have a question or topic that you would like the panelists to address,
please email or telephone her. Carol’s email address is: ckelley@libr.utep.edu.
Her phone number is 915/747-6718.
