The meeting was called to order at 8:45 following a well attended continental breakfast. Most of the vendors attending left at this time. Carol M. Kelley, Chair, welcomed the attendees.

Minutes: The minutes of the July 21, 2002, Annual Assembly meeting were approved as written.

Budget: Cathy reported that after revenues of $1,973.15 and expenses of $10.14, the February 28, 2003, balance was $5,346.77. Revenues and expenses for the Houston conference and election expenses are not included in the report.

TLA Executive Board Liaison report: Cindy Buchanan reported on the strategic plan. She also urged all newly elected officers to attend officer training at the end of the conference.

Nominating Committee Report: Judith Hiott reported that Jill Emery had been elected Chair elect, and Andrea Yang was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Mary Beth Thomson moved to destroy the ballots. Jeanne Harrell seconded the motion. The motion passed. A nominating committee for the next slate of officers was not appointed at this meeting.

Vendor Breakfast: Elaine Plotkin, Past Chair, was in charge of the vendor breakfast. She reported that because she raised $1,175 from vendors, no funding for the breakfast was necessary from the round table. For a door prize, Milton Van Dusen from Bound to Stay Bound donated a basket with books. Elaine supplemented the basket with additional items.

Conference Program Report: Viccy Kemp was in charge of conference programming. She reported that the “Everything but English and Spanish!” ACDRT program (April 2, 2PM) was very interesting and well received. Presenters at this program were Ludmila Pospelova, adult services librarian, Richardson Public Library, Hui Zhang, senior adult services librarian, Plano Public Library System, and Janeen Zhu, senior public service librarian, Plano Public Library System. Ludmila advised on the acquisition of Russian, Hindi, Persian, and Chinese materials. Janeen described her work with the Chinese community, including Chinese story times and programming for special Chinese holidays. Hui described the Small Talk program she coordinates for the Plano Public Library System. Small Talk, recently written about in the Texas Library Journal, is a very successful library program that helps nonnative speakers gain confidence speaking in English. The goal is to enable the participants to better participate in daily life in the United States.

The ACDRT Preconference was “Readers’ Advisory: Book Talking Genre Literature” with Yvonne Jocks, Dean James and Barbara Perkins. Yvonne talked about romance fiction; Dean talked about mysteries and Barbara presented a formidable bibliography of good inspirational literature. Discussion focused on new books and trends in libraries for using genres. There were 33 in attendance and the program made money for the RT. It was well received.

Web Site: Judith Hiott agreed to continue maintaining the Web site for another year. Cathy Ziegler will send the last Annual Assembly approved minutes and the draft of the Houston conference minutes to Judith for posting on the Web site.

Tall Texans: Mary Castle moved, and Mary Jo Venetis seconded, a motion to contribute $200 to the Tall Texans. The motion passed. ACDRT members Gretchen Pruett and Katherine Stack have been selected to attend the Tall Texans Leadership Institute in June.

Other: Carol reminded all attendees that Annual Assembly will be July 10-12 in Austin. Cathy Ziegler was the grateful winner of the book basket door prize drawing.

The meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Ziegler
Secretary/Treasurer
