CONFERENCE PROGRAM This
is a busy conference year for ALHRT. We are planning and/or co-sponsoring a
number of programs that should interest most or all ALHRT members. Here's a
preview of what is in store: ·
Tuesday,
April 1, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. "How Safe Are You?" - Disaster Planning
preconference. This is a full day workshop on preparing a disaster plan, led by
Tom Clareson from OCLC. The morning session will consist of a series of panels
discussing different aspects of a disaster plan. Participants will be provided a
generic plan template and guidance on how to tailor the plan to their library.
Speakers include representatives from FEMA, Amigos, Texas Municipal League, BMS
Catastrophe, Inc., and others. The afternoon session comprises tours of two
libraries damaged during the TS Allison flooding. We will tour the staging area
for the University of Houston Law Library recovery program and the Houston
Public Library. Cost for TLA members is $85, and all proceeds will benefit the
Texas Disaster Relief Fund. ·
Wednesday,
April 2, 1:00 - 1:50 pm. "Digital Future: Preserving Digital Objects Using
Preservation Metadata." Bill Walker form Amigos and Daniel Alemneh from UNT
will provide a brief introduction to preservation metadata, including some
implementation examples. ·
Wednesday,
April 2, 2:00 - 3:50 pm. "TexTreasures Success Stories." Co-sponsor
with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. ·
Wednesday,
April 2, 4:00 - 4:50 pm. "The Mysteries of Marbled Paper." Marbler
will demonstrate the process and art of paper marbling. ·
Thursday,
April 3, 12:00 - 3:00 pm. Field Trip to the Museum of Printing History (lunch
included). Cost is $25. Send check, payable to TLA, to Will Howard, 12618
Ashcroft, Houston, TX 77035. Include an email address for acknowledgment and the
