A&TRT Meeting MinutesJuly 15, 2001TLA Annual Conference - San AntonioIn attendance were: Chair Jennifer Acker, Chair-Elect Chris Peterson, Counselor Sharon Castleberry, Cynthia Cooper, Counselor-Alternate Jeanette Mosey, Marilyn Johnson, Vickie Phillips, Coby Condrey, Gene Rollins, Judith Hiott, Phillip Reynolds, Ellen Perlow, Jerry McCulley, Connie Moss, Joyce Baumbach, Elise Wright, Stephany Compton, Ted Wanner, Secretary/Treasurer Jerry McCulley. Chair-Elect Chris Peterson called the meeting to order welcomed everyone in attendance and asked everyone to introduce himself or herself. Chair Jennifer Acker asked Jeanne Ramirez to make her announcements. Ramirez pointed out the highlights of the TLA Assembly and invited everyone to attend the various sessions. Ramirez also expressed concern over the non-passage of an increase in TLA dues by members and felt that most TLA members opinion had not been heard on the issue. She also mentioned that the location for TLA 2005 had not yet been decided and may be in Austin or Dallas. Secretary/Treasurer Jerry McCulley read the minutes from March 30, 2001. McCulley then read the Treasurer’s Report and mentioned an error that was corrected. Sharon Castlebury gave her report. There was general discussion about the need for someone from the Round Table to attend the Centennial Celebration meeting at 1:30 Monday. Vickie Phillips said she would attend. There was a discussion that we needed a nominating committee. Jeannette Mosey and Connie Moss volunteered. In old business, Acker discussed ideas for the Pre-Conference. Coby Condrey discussed the Texas State Library Databases and asked for our support. There was general agreement that ATRT would support the Texas State Library database Program for TLA 2002. There was general discussion about creating a block of time for the program. Chair Peterson discussed Pre-Conference program ideas for TLA. She suggested various topics including: wireless networking in libraries (including libraries that have implemented wireless) and Z39.50 implementation. Discussion ensued regarding how to develop a program on Z39.50. Vickie Phillips made a motion that ATRT present a Pre-Conference on Z39.50 that was vendor specific. Jeannette Mosey seconded the motion. The ATRT unanimously approved the minutes as well as supporting the TSL database program. The ATRT also unanimously approved Chair Peterson’s development of a Pre-conference program on wireless Jennifer Acker discussed the need to increase the fee we charge vendors for the New Technology Showcase and the need to change the name from New Technology Showcase to Technology Showcase. Discussion continued on the need of phones lines and that some vendors want a phone line for live interactivity. Jennifer Acker asked for a motion to have phones lines for vendors at Pre-Conference and to increase the fee at the Technology Showcase. Connie Moss made a motion to continue on a cost recovery basis at the Technology Showcase. Stephany Compton seconded the motion and the motion was approved. Acker brought up the issue of vendors paying in advance this year. There was general discussion. Ellen Perlow reported that the Adaptive Accessibility booth was a success at TLA last year. Judith Hiott moved that ATRT co-sponsor the Accessibility pavilion for the next year. Jeannette Mosley seconded the motion. The motion was approved. Acker continued discussion on the location and position of the Technology Showcase. Chair Chris Peterson presented information about Net Fair, asked if we wanted to do Net Fair next year, asked for ideas and opened the topic for discussion. Peterson will develop and organize Net Fair. She asked for names of presenters to go with the topics. Acker asked if there was any other business. Acker brought up for discussion providing two stipends for applicants to attend TLA. The was unanimous agreement among ATRT and stipends were approved. A motion to adjourn was brought by Sharon Castleberry, seconded by Connie Moss and approved. The ATRT adjourned at 6:00 pm July 15, 2001.
