PURPOSE

To promote a partnership between
librarians of African American descent and librarians serving the
African American community that will enable them to work together and
exchange information and ideas about providing services to the African
American community through:
- recruitment,
retention and promotion of African Americans to the profession.
- inclusion of African
American librarians in local, state, and national professional
organizations as active members on committees and as office holders.
- development of
collections responsive to and representative of the cultural and
ethnic diversity of the African American community.
- systematic work with
each other to create informational tools useful to the sharing of
resources across library types and sizes.
- develop
communication vehicles in the form of a newsletter and home page site
on the internet.
- seek opportunities
to network, empower and mentor librarians serving the African American
communities.
- devise effective
strategies to empower our libraries and communities as well as
ourselves.
- use the organization
to draw other like minded librarians in to the Texas Library
Association.
- foster and promote
the open exchange of ideas among librarians throughout the state.
