 of the History of TLA Committee

 

July 11, 2003, Annual Assembly

Austin, Texas

 

Called to order @ 10:00 am by Janis Test.  Hollis McCright is acting as secretary.

  1. Introduction of members

  2. Treasurer's report given by Janis; copies of latest financials were passes out.  As of July 1, 2003, handbook sales totaled $120.00; balance in account is $5,834.20.

  3. Ann E. Strautman (Annlib@aol.com) volunteered to formulate a mission statement for committee.  She will work on it and circulate it via email. 

  4. Janis Test will work as webmaster to get our presence on the TLA website.  She will co-ordinate with Mary Ann Emerson and provide her with necessary information.

  5. Charles Harrell informed us that 205 copies of handbook are unsold. Eakin Press was the publisher of handbook.  Test suggested that small sum of money be set aside for advertising in such venues as ALA/American Libraries; TLA-magazine; place ad on TLA's website (?). Motion was made by Test that committee would authorize Test to investigate costs of mass mailout to remind membership of the Handbook and Chronology/Bibliography (Eakin Press); 2nd by Charles Harrell; motion passed.

  6.  Barry Bishop reminded committee of TLA's strategic plan and to make sure that History of TLA committee is represented in said plan.

  7. Janis Test had formulated guidelines for checking out recording equipment; discussion ensued.  Motion was made by Joe Specht, 2nd by Charles Harrell to accept guidelines as written by Test.  Motion passed.   Information to be passed to the TLA office for inclusion in recording equipment box.  TLA is also to be informed as to correct procedures when sending equipment out.    James Stewart is "blood hounding" on the set of equipment that has gone missing.  Joe Specht said that 1 equipment set may be enough for recording if the other set is not found.   Additional discussion on number of interviews yet to be transcribed and the cost of doing so.  Test will investigate via TLA office.

  8.  Review of program @ Annual Conference:  Program was on the History of the TALL Texans; Janis Test was moderator.  She said that she thought it was well received. 

  9.  The program slot for History of the Bluebonnet Book List is set.  It will be immediately after the luncheon @ 2-2:50.  Colene Hoerman will help with program.  She was an early member of the Bluebonnet committee and will be glad to help.  Discussion of the how and why of selection ensued.  Melody Kelly suggested that the Bluebonnet List be sent out prior to the conference if it is possible.

  10. Motion to adjourn by Charles Harrell; 2nd by Ann Strautman; meeting adjourned @ 11:30.
