Saturday, October 15, 2005
Our Lady of the Lake University, Sueltenfuss Library
Please join us for the annual half-day Texas Library Association District
10 Fall Workshop on Saturday, October 15, 2005, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30
p.m. at the Our Lady of the Lake University, Sueltenfuss Library. Our
luncheon speaker, Rick Riordan, an award winning mystery writer, will give
a behind-the-scenes look at writing the enormously popular "Tres Navarre"
series and the brand new "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series (which
has been optioned for a feature film by 20th Century Fox.) Barnes and
Noble will be on hand to sell copies of his two most recent books, The
Lightning Thief and Mission Road, beginning at 8:30 a.m. All
profits from the book sale will go to TLA District 10. The breakout
sessions include:
- Introducing the Power of Polish – Diane Gottsman introduces "the power of polish" to help alleviate "awkward" moments by teaching how to make small talk, handshakes, eye contact, body language, and much more.
- My Heart Speaks a Different Language – With simple prop changes, Carmen Tafolla presents a beautiful bi-lingual one-woman theatrical show transforming herself into a number of diverse characters. Her latest book, Sonnets and Salsa, will be on sale.
- Information Literacy: Assessing Your Instruction – Michelle Millet will present an interactive session on assessing student learning outcomes for information literacy instruction.
- The Library of Texas Project – Kevin Marsh will introduce a new service offered by the Texas State Library Archive Commission that allows users of public, academic, and clinical medicine libraries to easily discover and retrieve desired information from multiple library catalogs, databases, and other knowledge collections without having to use each individual library's interface.
