District 8 – Conference Stipends

District 8 of the Texas Library Association will make available 21 stipends of $140 each to help defray the costs of attending the 2006 TLA Annual Conference in Houston.

The stipends are available for library employees in the District 8 area without a Masters Degree in Library Science or its equivalent. The purpose of these stipends is to encourage participation and membership in TLA.  Recipients will gain insight into the operations of TLA during the conference.

APPLICATION (doc)

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be employed in a library and without a Masters Degree in Library Science or its equivalent.

  2. Must agree to apply part of the stipend to membership in TLA, if not already a member.

  3. First time attendees are preferred, but prior attendees who have not attended within five years and who have never received this stipend before are encouraged to apply.

  4. Must agree to attend and to be recognized at District 8 caucus during TLA.

  5. Must agree to work four hours as a volunteer during the Conference.

  6. Must agree to submit a report and evaluation of the Conference telling whether it fulfilled your expectations and what, if anything, you learned that you will be able to use in your library.  This report must be written and submitted to the District 8 Stipend Committee [one would need to exist, of course] Chair within 30 days of the Conference.

  7. Must agree to attend 3 programs during the TLA Conference.

TIMELINE

The Stipend Committee will use the following timeline as a guide for selection.January 12        Deadline of application postmark.

January 18: Committee members will begin review of applications

February 8: Committee members will be polled for their decisions.

February 15: Letters sent to applicants selected as well as those that are not.  Notice will be sent to Local Arrangements chair for volunteer assignments.  Notice sent to TLA Office.

April 27: Stipend winners introduced at District 8 Caucus.

May 30: Stipend winners shall send report to Stipend Committee Chair.
