Digitization Expo at TLA 2008!
The 2008 Texas Library Convention conference will be held April 15-18 at the Dallas
Convention Center. With a projected attendance of approximately 7,000 school, public, and
academic librarians, our conference is the largest state library association meeting in the United
States. For more information, see http://www.txla.org/conference/conf.html.
For 2008, the TLA Digital Libraries Round Table is planning to hold a Digitization Expo in
conjunction with the conference. Our goal is to offer vendors of products and services for digital
libraries a greater opportunity to reach the Texas library market, as there are typically only a
handful of vendors exhibiting at the conference itself. At the same time, we want to give Texas
librarians, archivists, and museum professionals, many of whom never attend national
meetings, an opportunity to see some of the latest products and speak in person with the
qualified vendors who can assist them with digital projects.
The TLA Digitization Expo will be held on Tuesday, April 15, the day before the conference
formally begins, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This day is generally reserved for full and half-day
pre-conferences (nearly 400 people attended pre-conferences at TLA in 2007!) and conference
registration. The Expo will be open to both TLA members and non-members; to maximize the
number of attendees, we will charge a registration fee of only $10 in advance ($14 at the door).
The Expo is much less formal than the traditional TLA Exhibit Hall. At the Expo, vendors will be
restricted to 10x10 booths with tabletop display areas, with pipe and drape separating booth
areas. Vendors are expected to bring their own signs, equipment, and supplies. The enclosed
floor plan shows the general planned setup. The basic booth fee is $250; electrical and Internet
service are additional.
