GODORT Business Meeting

Annual Conference
Houston
Thursday, 3 April 2003
8:00-9:50 a.m.

What is in store for members able to attend the GODORT business meeting in Houston?

Tom Rohrig reported at the Annual Assembly in Austin that the State Plan for Texas Documents is nearing completion. He should have some updated news to share with members. Susan Norrisey and the Awards Committee will present their report on the 2003 Knowledge is Power Award recipient.

GODORT is sponsoring or cosponsoring three programs and pre-conferences at the Houston meeting. By Thursday morning's business meeting, Chair Janetta Paschal will be able to report on Tuesday's pre-conference session, "CHARTing Health Data," and Coby Condrey on Wednesday's program, "The Library of Texas: 21st Century Services." Meanwhile, Vice-Chair/Chair Elect Valerie Glenn will be able to give us all a preview of what we can expect at the program "Government Information: Access Denied?" later that afternoon at 2:00.

At Annual Assembly all GODORT committees were asked to prepare a short paragraph with their committee charges for presentation at the annual business meeting in Houston. (The charges will be posted on the web site.) The Electronic Resources Committee, chaired by Caroline Geer, took the opportunity at its meeting during Assembly to discuss the committee's history and whether or not it needed to continue. After much discussion the members present decided that the group indeed still had a purpose and drafted their committee charge. (I hope that other committees have been able to have as fruitful a discussion among their members.)

Some other business and news members may expect to hear are reports from the ALA Midwinter meeting in Philadelphia and from the fall 2002 Depository Council meeting (and maybe a preview of the 2003 Spring Council meeting in Reno).

Hopefully, we will end the meeting with an announcement of election results where there is not a tie for the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect position. But if there is a tie, I will have the "official GODORT quarter" in case it is needed for another coin toss (thankfully, not performed by me).

See you all bright and early Thursday morning, April 3, in Houston.
