Vol. 8, #2 Spring 2003 News from the University of North TexasStaffThis is quite an exciting time in the UNT Libraries' Government Documents Department. On December 31, 2002, Clarice Luce officially retired from UNT. That doesn't mean she's stopped working, however! Clarice will be back on modified service starting March 1, 2003. On January 6, 2003, Arlene Weible began work as our new Documents Librarian/Technical Services Coordinator. Arlene comes to Texas from the Washington State Library. She is already active in ALA GODORT and we hope she'll become just as involved in TLA GODORT! ProjectsCurrently we are building the framework for a Portal to Texas History. This will provide students and researchers access to primary source materials from museums and libraries all over Texas, in addition to curriculum materials created by Texas teachers and supplemental materials provided by Texas historians. For more information about the Portal to Texas History, visit http://texashistory.unt.edu/. In July 2002 we received a TexTreasures grant to digitize documents related to the Annexation of Texas to the United States. These materials include letters, treaties, Congressional debates, maps, and monographs, and will be incorporated into the Portal. The Annexation materials should be available on our Web site by August 2003. We have also begun digitizing our World War II poster collection. Not only will we be providing access to the images, we will also be including information about the artists of these posters. Look for this collection to be unveiled on our Web site in 2004.
