GODORT Programs at Annual Conference

We have an ambitious schedule of programs during conference this year. Our request for GPO Access training was accepted so we encourage our members to take advantage of the pre-conference. We are also excited to announce that Superintendent of Documents Judith Russell will be attending our business meeting and leading a discussion on the future of the depository libraries. In planning the programs for conference we hope to increase interest in both GODORT and government information.

Pre-Conference: GPO Access

As suggested by our members, we have made arrangements for GPO Access training during the Annual Conference. The session includes an introduction to GPO Access and training on how to locate government publications and information through the many databases. Our trainers will be John Dowgiallo and Kate Villano. The all-day session will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the library on the UT San Antonio Downtown campus. The session is listed in the conference program as a pre-conference and it is limited to 30 participants. Registration for the pre-conference will be $35 for members, $50 for non-members. To register for the conference contact Theresa Storey [storey@library.lamar.edu].

GODORT Business Meeting

Our round table business meeting will be held at 8 a.m. on Friday March 19. As compensation for meeting at this early hour, breakfast will be provided compliments of Lexis-Nexis. Judith Russell, Superintendent of Documents, will be in attendance to report on the changes in the depository program and answer questions. We will also hold the election for the 2004-05 officers.

Locating Primary Sources on the Web

Our first program during the conference will be from 10:00-10:50 a.m. on March 19, directly following the business meeting. Locating Primary Resources will provide an overview of how researchers can locate primary historical documents on the Web. The presentation will focus on the Library of Congress American Memory collection, the National Archives Archival Research Catalog and the digitized collections of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Presenters are Theresa Storey and Jon Tritsch from Gray Library at Lamar University.

The Future of Federal Depository Libraries

On Saturday, March 20, at 8 a.m., Superintendent of Documents Judith Russell will be seeking feedback from library directors and discussing changes to the future of the Federal Depository Library Program. Encourage your directors to join the discussion on Saturday morning!
