GODORT's 2008 Conference Program: E-Government Services

GODORT's conference program "Providing Federal E-Government Services to Your Library Customers" will be presented on Thursday, April 17, from 2:00 to 3:50 p.m. Learn about popular e-government websites and services from a wide range of agencies, including IRS, INS, VA, and SSA. The program demonstrates locating and using materials available from forms.gov and other sources. Highlights include financial aid forms, selected federal "metasites", Medicare prescription plan finders, vital records, and various tools. The speaker, Steve Beleu (Director, U.S. Government Information Division, Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Oklahoma City), is a regional federal depository librarian and has worked extensively with agencies in Washington to better understand how the developers of electronic databases and resources expect their audience to access and use the materials. Mr. Beleu will address a range of interests, from topics that might appeal to public librarians (especially tax/IRS, student financial aid/FAFSA, and immigration/INS issues) to more complex resources that documents librarians want to understand and promote more actively (such as federal government "metasites" for information such as health and census statistics). Check the conference program for location.
