In 1991, upon arriving in Texas, Sue initiated the creation of a Library Instruction Interest Group within TLA. Over the next few years, she sparked interest in and enlisted support from other librarians interested in teaching and learning in libraries. In doing so the Interest Group grew into the Library Instruction Round Table. The creation of this group has given Texas librarians, from many types of libraries, a forum for sharing their ideas and concerns related to instruction. Sue served LIRT as the first Chair followed by two terms as Councilor -- service spanning
over ten years. Additionally in 1995, Sue enticed the nationally recognized library instruction conference, LOEX, to schedule their annual conference in the state and hosted the event at the University of North Texas in Dallas. The conference drew
attention to many of the programs and librarians within the state on a national level.
LIRT is pleased to recognize the contributions Sue Byron has made towards
the support and promotion of library instruction within the state and on a national level.
