Related Technologies Round Table
Juanell Marks, chair of Media and Related Technologies Round Table, opened the meeting at 10 a.m. There were 20 people in attendance. Juanell Marks introduced the present officers: Juanell Marks, Chair; Janice Cayton, Chair-elect; Barbara Camp, Past Chair and Secretary/Treasurer; Carol Simpson, Councilor; and Angela Skaggs, Alternate Councilor who is filling in for the remainder of Jane Ann Thompson’s term. Janice Cayton took minutes as Barbara Camp was unable to attend due to her husband’s illness. Juanell Marks called on several guests who wished to speak to the group. Karen Paulus, liaison from the 2005 TLA conference, reminded new officers to attend the briefing on Saturday afternoon at 1:50 p.m. and to make plans to be at Annual Assembly on July 11-13, 2004 in Austin. Sharon Amastae, liaison from Executive Board, asked people to make hotel reservations for Austin today and to sign up for Texline, to receive legislative information. She also noted that TLA Cast is now totally electronic. Jack Strawn, Chair of Texas Media Awards, shared with the group highlights of the 2004 Media Awards. He said the quality of the entries is very high and that the celebration ceremony had been very successful. Janice Cayton mentioned that next year the Texas Media Awards Committee and MRT2 will sponsor a preconference on how to do a media project. Copies of the budget were passed out to the audience and Juanell Marks noted the balance of funds. She also explained that the minutes from Annual Assembly are posted on the TLA webpage. Juanell Marks asked to the group to consider making a donation to the June Kahler Berry Scholarship Fund. June Kahler Berry, who recently died, was a moving force for the MRT2 Round Table. Janice Cayton moved that MRT2 give $500.00 in her memory. Angela Skaggs seconded. The motion passed. Robbye Durham of the nominations committee presented the slate of officers for 2004-2005: Janice Cayton, Chair; Joyce Chaffin, Chair-elect; Barbara Camp, Secretary/Treasurer; Carol Simpson, Councilor; Angela Skaggs, Alt. Councilor; and Juanell Marks, Past Chair. The slate of new officers was accepted by the group. Carol Simpson is continuing in office and Angela Skaggs is filling the remainder of a term. Janice Cayton, Joyce Chaffin and Barbara Camp were elected to their offices. As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The program, “Conservation of Non-Print Media,” was presented by Dr. Carol Simpson, Assistant Professor, School of Library and Information Sciences, University of North Texas and Ann Clark, Nancy Limmer and Linda Holder, students from the University of North Texas.
