How to Get Involved in NMRT

NMRT welcomes new members who would like to become active in the Round Table.

Every new member who joins TLA and designates NMRT as the Round Table of choice, or who does not specify a Round Table, is added to NMRT's mailing list to receive the NMRT Newsletter mailed three times a year. The newsletter includes grants and award information, conference plans, mentoring opportunities, and much more to help you become acquainted with the activities of the Round Table.

If you plan to attend the Texas Library Association Annual Conference, an excellent way to begin your participation in NMRT is to volunteer to work for a few hours in the Bag Check Booth. As a service to conference attendees, NMRT "babysits" their bags for a small fee, taking a load off lots of arms and backs and very importantly, serving as a major fundraiser to support NMRT's many programs. The Booth is a great place to meet other new members, have fun, and contribute to the effors of the group at the same time. Just complete the Bag Check Booth Volunteer Form and return it electronically. Then plan also to attend NMRT's Conference Orientation Program to learn how to get the most out of the TLA conference, meet other new librarians, and have the opportunity to volunteer for committees or other activities.

But you don't have to attend Annual Conference to be active in NMRT. Much of the work of the Round Table is accomplished through standing committees, each with responsibility for certain activities. Read the descriptions of the committees to find out what each does. If you decide you would like to work with one of them, or would just like to talk with someone to get more information, complete the committee volunteer form, return it, and you will be contacted.

Apply for the TLA/NMRT Quality Books Inc. Professional Development Grant or nominate a colleague for the Outstanding New Librarian Award.

We know you will find NMRT activities that will interest and benefit you. Join us! We look forward to meeting and working with you.
