WELCOME

We're glad you found your way to the Public Libraries Division (otherwise known as PLD) page. According to our bylaws the Public Libraries Division of the Texas Library Association exists to:

1. provide a forum for communication among and a source of professional advice and assistance to all concerned with public library service in Texas. Notice it says "all concerned,"  so don’t feel excluded if you are a library volunteer or trustee rather than a paid staff member. 
2. facilitate cooperation between all types of Texas libraries and librarians as well as other related institutions and individuals in the interest of improved public library service in Texas. Looking at the grant opportunities out there, cooperation across library types and with other institutions such as museums is obviously the wave of the future (if not the present)!
3. encourage public librarians in Texas to continue their education in response to changing circumstances in public libraries. With all the change technology is bringing us, it is obvious we need to keep up if we’re not going to get run over! In our profession we’re lucky to have good and inexpensive opportunities for this through the State Library workshops and those offered by our library systems. 
4. In accordance with TLA policies and regulations, to speak for the profession on matters pertaining to public libraries in Texas including but not limited to legislative matters at all governmental levels.  This is a legislative year, which means this is our chance to let the legislators know the needs of the public libraries in Texas. You can also sign up there to be on an e-mail notification list, so you will be alerted when help is needed on critical issues.

Our other main focus is providing quality programs 
for our members at the TLA Annual Conference.
