T-AG3 Texas state publications. Austin: Texas State Library and Archives Commission,
Texas State Publications Clearinghouse, 1963- . Monthly. Free ISSN 0363-4736 TexDoc
L1900.6 D659
Title varies: Texas State Documents, 1963-Jan. 1989.
Supercedes: Checklist for Official State Publications, 1967; Checklist of Official
State Publications, May 1965-1966; Checklist Official State Publications, 1963-Apr. 1965;
Official State Publications, Nov. 1952-1962; and Checklist, 1921-Jun. 1952. These listed only
publications distributed to depository libraries, including individual issues of periodicals.
They continue as shipping lists of publications delivered to depository libraries. Not indexed.
A monthly listing of monographs, series, annuals, and new periodicals published by
Texas state government agencies and institutions of higher education and received by the Texas
State Publications Clearinghouse. Excludes job announcements, news releases, bills, slip laws,
opinions, daily journals, issues of periodicals, and other ephemeral materials.
Each issue includes a directory of all Texas State Depository Libraries.
Issuing agencies are alphabetized by key word in the agency name. Since Sep. 1989,
the address and telephone number of the agency has been included. State institutions of higher
education are listed separately following the agency section.
Titles are arranged alphabetically under issuing agency. Since Sep. 1989, each entry
includes the following elements: 1) Texas Documents Classification number; 2) title; 3) author;
4) edition; 5) publication date; 6) pagination; 7) frequency; 8) series title and number; 9)
title and content notes; 10) depository and microfiche availability symbol; 11) OCLC record
number; and 12) sequential entry number. Flyers and leaflets (often not retained by depository
libraries) are listed alphabetically as "Leaflets" under their issuing agencies.
Prior to Sep. 1989, each entry included the following elements: 1) depository
availability symbol; 2) sequential entry number; 3) title; 4) pagination; 5) date; 6) author;
7) series title and number; 8) number of microfiche (beginning Jan. 1980); and 9) Texas
Documents Classification number (beginning Apr. 1975).
Following the agency and institutions sections, each issue includes a subject index
listing title, classification number and entry number under subject headings assigned from the
Texas State Publications Thesaurus. Until 1994, a separate title index also appeared in each
issue.
Monthly subject and title indexes cumulated semi-annually or annually until 1994, when
the monthly title index was eliminated and the annual cumulated index was no longer made
available in printed form (see T-AG5). A marginally-legible cumulated subject, title, and
agency index for 1984-1988 was issued in 1989.
A microfiche order form was included in each issue from 1981 until Sep. 1994, when it
became a separate quarterly mailing.
Agency periodical titles were listed in a separate annual Texas State Documents
Periodicals Supplement from 1977 to 1988. Monthly issues include entries only for new
periodical titles.

NOTES:

INTERNET RESOURCE (Sample):

T-AG5 Texas state publications annual indexes. Austin: Texas State Library and Archives
Commission, Texas State Publications Clearinghouse, 1994- . Annual. URL:
http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/statepubs/annualindex/index.html
	Continues: Texas State Publications Index
Print indexes to Texas State Publications (see T-AG3) were discontinued in 1994 and
replaced by electronic annual indexes. The annual electronic indexes are not interlocking
resources. The Agency Index cumulates the monthly agency and institutions of higher education
entries into a single list under each agency and institution name. The "LEAFLETS" listings
appearing in the monthly issues are eliminated from the annual indexes. Entries include the
same information that appears in the monthly listings, but they are arranged in alphabetical
order by title, which places the item entry numbers out of sequence. The Agency Index is
divided into 2-3 alphabetic files each year since 1995. The "Z" section for institutions of
higher education usually is a separate file.
The Subject Index cumulates the monthly subject listings into a single alphabetic
sequence. Since 1996, it appears as 2-3 alphabetic files. Until 1999, instead of listing
multiple items under a single heading, headings are repeated for each title listed. Entries
in the Subject Index include only 1) the title of the item, 2) its Texas Documents classifica-
tion number, and 3) its sequential Texas State Publications entry number. Finding the fuller
description of an item in the electronic Agency Index is cumbersome, because the Subject Index
does not identify the issuing agency and the listings in the Agency Index are not in numerical
sequence. The most effective method to search the Agency Index for an item found in the
Subject Index is to search for the sequential item number using the "Find (on this page)"
search function of a web browser (usually an "Edit" option). Because in most years the Agency
Index is split into multiple files, it is important to note the letter beginning the Texas
Documents Classification number for the item: it indicates the section of the alphabet which
will include the agency issuing the publication. The entry number can be used to locate the
full entry sequentially in the printed Texas State Publications.

WEBSITE (Sample):

T-CK83 Texas Legislature online. URL: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/
The primary source for information on the Texas Legislature. Updated approximately 15
minutes to 1 hour after information is entered into the legislature's internal computer system,
which is as soon as, or shortly after, legislative events occur. Session times for both the
House and Senate are featured on the main page.
Texts and up-to-date legislative histories are searchable for all bills and resolutions
introduced into either house of the legislature from the 74th Legislature (1995) to the present.
Bills are searchable by bill number, subject, author, committee, and keyword. An advanced search
option allows bill type, action and date limitations.
"Who Represents Me?" searches by address, zip code, county, or city identify current
representatives in the Texas Senate, Texas House of Representatives, U.S. House of
Representatives, and the State Board of Education. District elected officials are listed by
district type, by district number, and by name. District demographic information, zip codes,
counties and cities also are provided.
Calendars, room schedules, and directories for the Senate and House; committee members
and schedules; legislative dates of interest; and links to state agencies which work closely
with the Legislature are provided.
"The Legislative Process in Texas", in PDF and HTML formats, outlines how bills become
law in Texas. A "Legislative Glossary" defines important legislative terms.
Both video and audio broadcasts of Senate and House chamber and committee activities
from 1999 to date are available.
HTML and PDF full text of House and Senate daily journals are provided from the 76th
Legislature (1999) to the present. Also available are full text of the Texas Statutes (HTML and
zipped ASCII and Word Perfect files), Texas Constitution (HTML and zipped ASCII files), and
Index of Sections Affected (searchable). The "Texas Legislative Council Drafting Manual" (HTML
and PDF) explains how legislation is drafted by TLC staff.
Texas redistricting information and Capitol information and events calendars are
provided.

organizations. Articles include bibliographic references. This edition is a revision and
expansion of the two-volume Handbook of Texas (published in 1952) and its Supplement (published
in 1976).
The Internet version provides free access to the text included in the printed version.
A joint project of The General Libraries at the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas
State Historical Association, the electronic version provides keyword searching of the complete
text as well as browsing by article title and by subject. No cross-links exist within article
text, but "qv" notations identify related entries. The option to "format this article for print"
provides not only the text but also a recommended citation format, including a specific URL for
the article and an exact access date and time. The format used does not list the author for
signed articles.
