"Censorship and the Internet: Where Do You Stand?" Conference
Program. Thursday, April 13, 8:30 a.m.
The program will feature two speakers:
- Pat Ensor, Director, University of Houston-Downtown Library has written and spoken widely on many library issues including censorship questions. She is the editor of the recently published book Cyberlibrarian II.
- Gretchen McCord Hoffmann brings her perspective as a librarian and law student to the program. She will speak on what the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and state law say about this important and provocative topic.
"Genealogy: Finding Your Family's Roots with Library Resources"
Half-day Preconference. Tuesday, April 11, 1-5 p.m.
This half-day preconference will feature four expert speakers:
- Wendy Clark, Texas State Library & Archives Commission, Austin
- Marje Harris, Clayton Genealogy Library, Houston
- Bill Page, Genealogy Specialist, Texas A&M
- Von Maszewski, Genealogy and Local Historian, Fort Bend County Library
Many aspects of Genealogy searching will be covered, including:
- Helping the beginning genealogist
- Use of government documents in genealogy searching
- Genealogy sources for a small library
- Ethnic genealogy
There will be plenty of time for questions. Handouts will be provided. Since
this year's Annual Conference will be the first one opened to the general
public, you may want to invite your non-librarian, genealogically inclined
friends to the Preconference.
