MINUTES TEXAS LIBRARY ASSOCIATION REFERENCE ROUNDTABLE JULY 30, 1983
The Reference Roundtable meeting at the TLA Annual Assembly was called to order by Susan Hancock, Chair, at 1:00 p.m. Approximately twelve people were present. The minutes of the April 13, 1983 meeting were read by John Fadell, Secretary/ Treasurer. Two corrections were made:
  1. The title of the April 12 program should read "Literary Diversity Within One Culture."
  2. Next year's nominating committee members are Antonio Martinez, Nan Ross and Bettye Sutton.
Susan Hancock made the following announcements: The allocation of next year's budget of $660 will be $400 for next spring's RRT Program, $160 for one newsletter mailing, $50 for the RRT Project and $50 for miscellaneous expenses. Susan will send a taped copy of the April, 1983 RRT Program to each of the five speakers on that Program. Please contact the nominating committee with suggestions for candidates for office. The 1981 volume of the Red River Index is supposedly finished but has not been seen by Charles Smith and the bibliographic committee. There is a possibility of the bibliographic committee's being an advisory committee to the Red River Index and of RRT members serving as volunteer indexers. Susan will obtain a copy of the bylaws to see if changes proposed a couple of years ago were made official. There is a need to build the RRT budget back up. Susan discussed various ways we might try to increase our membership. New business: The RRT Project: Lois Bebout of SWTSU has accepted the general editorship of Texas Reference Sources, which has been dormant since 1978. She will contact subject editors with regard to updating their areas. The distribution of the update, as well as that of the Texas Reference Sources copies still available from the TLA Office, will have to be worked out. C. Brigid Welch, Texas Library Journal Contributing Editor for User Education, wished to know if there was interest in forming a user education committee within the RRT or perhaps a separate User Education Roundtable; she would welcome our ideas. The RRT Program for next spring's TLA meeting: Charles Smith, Vice-Chair/ Chair-Elect, presented several ideas for discussion. The two topics that evoked the most interest were electronic reference services and bibliographic instruction. We can present one of these at our one-and-one-half-hour combined business and program meeting and perhaps the other at a seminar cosponsored by RRT. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:10 p.m. Respectfully submitted, John E. Fadell Secretary/Treasurer cc: Susan Hancock Charles Smith TLA Office
