REFERENCE ROUND TABLE TEXAS LIBRARY ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING, JULY 27, 1990 MINUTES
Maurice Fortin presided. Introduction of Officers. The 1990/91 Reference Round Table officers were introduced. Texas Reference Sources, 1987 edition Margaret Nichols announced that 59 copies were still in print. The board agreed to reduce the cost to $5.00 per copy, then send the remaining copies to Maurice Fortin following Annual Assembly. Secretary/Treasurer's Report The minutes of the April 3 executive board meeting were approved. As of June 30, the RRT has a balance of $1,945.50 in its regular account and $834.48 in the Texas Reference Sources account. Budget Request Report Maurice Fortin presented the report to the executive board. Nominating Committee Report Nancy Anderson, Chair of the Nominating Committee, announced that Donald Buchwald and Pat Stinson-Switzer were being nominated for Chair-Elect for 1991/92, Cherry Beth Ludtke and Kathy Mehan for Secretary/Treasurer, and Karen Kendrick and Mary Ann Higdon for Councilor. There was a discussion of the need for continuity on the nominating committee and it was agreed that the outgoing chair should meet with the incoming chair to pass on information. Newsletter John Hepner, editor of the RRT newsletter, indicated that an issue would appear in November which will announce the officer nominees. October 25 is the deadline for members to send John information to be included in the fall newsletter issue. A spring issue will appear immediately before the annual conference. Because ballots will be going out to members in January and will not be due until March 10, the election results will not be announced until the annual conference. The spring issue will primarily advertise the annual conference program. The deadline for submission of material for this issue will be February 8. Lois Bebout Award Theresa Trost announced that Lois Bebout would be presented a plaque at the annual assembly luncheon. She has already received an honorarium. It was agreed that a committee needed to be formed to establish guidelines for future awards. Melinda Townsel-Winston was appointed by Maurice Fortin to chair the committee, which will work closely with the Awards committee. Texas Reference Sources It was announced that Walter Bell of the University of North Texas has agreed to serve as editor of the new edition, which should appear in 1992. He will be contacting former section editors to see if they wish to continue. A call for participants will appear in issues of the newsletter, Texas Library Journal, and TLACast. Annual Conference Program Melinda Townsel-Winston announced that she had located a speaker to present a program on the evaluation of reference services. Three panelists will be selected to respond to the speaker. Attempts will again be made to schedule the program so that it will not conflict with other major programs at the annual conference. RASD Council of State and Regional Groups John Hepner reported on the meetinq at the ALA annual conference. As editor of their newsletter Reference Roundup, he will be placing a notice in it regarding our sale of remaining issues of Texas Reference Sources. The Council is preparing a directory of state and regional groups and is attempting to obtain copies of all by-laws. Progress Report A copy of the progress report was distributed by Pat Stinson- Switzer. Planning There was a brief discussion of the TLA planning process and the role of the Planning Committee in long range planning. The meeting was then adjourned. Respectfully submitted by Martha K.
