REFERENCE ROUND TABLE Executive Committee Meeting Texas Library Association Annual Conference Corpus Christi, Texas April 13, 1994 9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m.
The Executive Committee Meeting of the Reference Round Table (RRT) was called to order by Bill Hord, Chairman. Members attending introduced themselves. Terri Miller, Secretary-Treasurer, read the minutes of the Executive Board Annual Assembly meeting July, 1993 in Austin. The minutes were approved as read. At this time RRT has $2,237 on balance. Bill Hord asked everyone to promote Texas Reference Sources. Bill said that the pre- conference meeting "Reference and the Internet: Issues and Answers" was well attended by approximately 130. He said that 100 had pre-registered and more signed up at the conference. He then asked for committee reports. Mary Ann Higdon, Councilor, reported that TLA has approximately 5600 members. The Texas State Library will be up for review in 1995. Jane Clausen, Nominating Committee Chairman, announced the new officers for 1994/95. Melinda Townsel-Winston, Lois Bebout Award Committee, said that Margaret Nichols was nominated for the Award. Her nomination was accepted by the Board members. Discussion was held regarding awarding a cash award of $150, as well as a plaque. It was decided to table the details of the cash award until annual assembly. Bill Hord, Planning Committee, said that RRT booth was near the exhibit hall and asked for volunteers to help staff the booth. Gretchen McCord Hoffmann said there were flyers and information at the booth to attract new members. Discussion was held regarding attracting TLA members to joining the RRT, such as focus groups, questionnaires, district meetings, putting a pitch in TLA Cast. Don Buchwald, Bylaws Revision Committee, said he had mailed out revisions of the bylaws to the RRT members. Discussion was held regarding the Lois Bebout Award as to whether or not it would be a permanent part of the Bylaws or an addendum. He said it was possible it could be grandfathered into the Bylaws. Don also suggested that any changes could be addressed in the upcoming newsletter. It was also discussed what would happen if the Vice-Chair became vacant - how it should be filled - should provision be made to fill it. It was decided to table this discussion until the executive board meeting at annual assembly. Old Business: Bill Hord reported that members attending the Pre-Conference on the Internet were very positive about what was discussed. TLA members attending ranged in experience from neophytes to experts. Diane K. Kovacs, Reference Librarian, Kent State University, was the guest speaker. She was very well received. This meeting was instrumental in adding money into the RRT. John Hepner, Newsletter Editor, said he could produce a June issue, but it's imperative to receive the information by May 1. This issue usually covers information gathered at the conference, committee reports, and upcoming news information. He asked for everyone's cooperation. John has access to ALA E-mail and is including pertinent information in the newsletter from that source. He also said that he will be advertising Texas Reference Sources, which sells for $15.00. New Business: Richard Dickey said the conference program was looking very good. He had talked with the speakers and they are enthusiastic and excited about participating. Legislative Day was discussed by the members. It will take place in February, 1995 at which time issues requiring legislative action will be presented to the Texas Legislature. It was voted on by the members to give $100 to the cause. Discussion was then turned to the TALL Texas Leadership Program who is asking for a stipend of $350. Discussion was held regarding giving a flat amount to be spread out among the individuals being chosen, or giving it to one individual. The Executive Board members voted to give the $350 stipend to a member of RRT who is chosen for TALL Texans. Elaine Klobe, RRT member, will receive the stipend for 1994. Members voted to review this stipend each year. Members present were Bill Hord, Terri Miller, Richard Dickey, Don Buchwald, Mary Ann Higdon, Karen Hendrick, Marilynn Green, John Hepner, Jane Clausen, Joyce Hopkins, Bob Kelley, Gretchen McCord Hoffmann, Lynne Westerholm, Melinda Townsel-Winston, Lynne Hambric, Cherry Luedtke, and incoming Secretary-Treasurer, Elaine Klobe.
