The Lois Bebout Reference Service Award Standing Committee is a standing committee of the reference round table (RRT) already in existence at the time of the adoption of these revised RRT By-Laws.

PURPOSE OF AWARD

This award is bestowed by the RRT to recognize and honor a librarian for outstanding lifetime achievements in reference and public service. The Lois Bebout Reference Service Award comes with a plaque and an honorarium.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Nominations for the Lois Bebout Reference Service Award may be submitted to the RRT Executive Board at any time, however the call for nominations will appear in the Spring edition of the RRT Newsletter. Nominations will then be accepted until the first day of the Annual Conference.

If nominations are received, the RRT chair will appoint an ad hoc committee which will consider all nominations submitted to them and present recommendations at Annual Assembly to the RRT Executive Board. The Lois Bebout Reference Service Award is awarded at Annual Conference. The Lois Bebout Reference Service Award is awarded as warranted but is not necessarily awarded annually.

CRITERIA FOR NOMINEE(S)

Nominees must be members of the Texas Library Association (TLA) and the RRT. Nominees should have by sustained or singular activity achieved distinction by enhancing reference and public service; strengthening librarians/library's role(s) and position(s) in communities through professional leadership in the professional community, and/or scholarly contributions.

FORMAT FOR NOMINATION(S)

1. Cover letter stating the award sought and specific reason for nomination. Name and address of the nominator and the nominee are to be included.

2. A one-page listing of qualifications, library accomplishments, library and other activities, recognitions and awards as they relate to library activities.

3. Two additional supporting statements may be submitted directly to the RRT Chair or when appropriate, to the Lois Bebout Reference Service Award Committee Chair.
