ANNEX B to BY-LAWS, REFERENCE ROUND TABLE, TEXAS LIBRARY ASSOCIATION. TEXAS REFERENCE AWARD STANDING COMMITTEEThe Texas Reference Award Standing Committee was approved by the RRT on July 30, 1995. PURPOSE OF AWARD The Texas Reference Award shall be bestowed by the RRT annually, if warranted, to recognize an outstanding new reference tool in Texas history, culture, or commerce. A significantly revised edition of a previous work can also be considered. The award will be announced after Annual Assembly, with a plaque to be formally presented at the RRT Business/Program meeting at the next TLA Conference. RECOMMENDATION PROCESS Recommendations of titles to be considered must be submitted in writing to the RRT/TRA Committee Chair or any other committee member no later than May 1 of each year. Those received after that date will be held for consideration the following year. Solicitations for recommendations will be made through TLACast, RRT Newsletter, TPALS Newsletter, Texas Library Journal and flyers distributed through the District Causus Chairs for announcement at their fall meetings
The committee shall meet at Annual Assembly, prior to the meeting of the RRT Executive Board, for a final review of the recommended titles and to vote. Their selection will be presented to the RRT Executive Board. CRITERIA FOR RECOMMENDATION The title must be a reference tool (including, but not limited to): bibliography, index, encyclopedia, handbook or other scholarly apparatus designed to assist the user doing Texas research. It is not limited to print format, as long as it fits the criteria of a "reference tool." Selection will be based on scholarship, style, ease of use and contribution as a Texas reference source. The title must be published within 3 years immediately preceding the closing date for recommendations (May 1 of each year).
