Dear Committee Member:

Thank you for attending the meeting in Fort Worth to discuss the
means by which the TLA-RRT Committee on Texas Infomation Sources
can best accomplish the duties with which it is charged. Your
interest and suggestions were all very helpful.

As I understand the consensus of the meeting, the following steps
are the ones which we decided to follow:

   1)	Each committee member is to solicit assistance and suggestions
from other librarians within his district for additions and/or
deletions from the basic list of "Sources of Information about
Texas" which was compiled in September, 1972. (Copy enclosed.)
Each committee member may use any method he desires for this
information gathering. All suggestions for additions and
deletions should be forwarded to me by June 1 (that's a whole
month later than we originally set). My own feeling is that
this basic list should include not more than 50 titles; probably
closer to 30 would be preferable. Of course, as we agreed at
the meeting, any district could add or subtract from the basic
list in preparing an exhibit or program for his district.

   2)	I will compile from the lists submitted to me a list of all the
suggested titles and send a copy to each member of the committee
no later than June 15. That list will be your final chance to
"vote" on the basic list. From your replies which should reach
me no later than July 15, I shall compile the "official committee
basic list." For each title on that final list I shall have
made annotations (preferably covered in plastic). These annota-
tions will be the "travelling" part of the exhibit. Of course, if
all the books are not readily available within a district, we'll
have to help each other locate copies for display.

  3)	Each committee member is responsible for seeing that the annota-
tions, the books, and a presentation if it is desired, is available
for his district meeting. As soon as you know the date of your
district's meeting, please let me know so that I can be certain
that we have enough copies of the annotations available when needed.

  4)	If you are interested in working on the compilation of the
SUBJECT GUIDE TO REFERENCE BOOKS ABOUT TEXAS, please indicate
your subject interest on the attached sheet. As you are asking
for suggestions for the basic list, of course, you can be
soliciting ideas for the "Texas Winchell." As soon as I
have volunteer editors for each subject area, I'll let you
all know, and, hopefully, get Mary Pound to publish the
list in the TEXAS LIBRARY JOURNAL so that anyone and everyone
will have the opportunity to contribute information to the
appropriate people. Our deadline for this part of our
committee's work, I feel, can be delayed until after the
district meetings next fall; hopefully, we'll all receive
suggestions from librarians at those meetings. It would be
great if we could ask for funds for publication of our
"masterpiece" at next year's TIA meeting! Or, maybe even
before. (If you personally are not interested in working
as an editor on the "Texas Winchell," please feel free to
	recommend people who might be.)

  5)	One other point on which we agreed is that each committee
member is to check with all the library schools in his district
to be certain that no library school student has compiled or
	is compiling any similar publication.

If anyone feels that the above outline does not fairly closely
follow the thinking at the committee meeting we had in Fort Worth
last week, I stand ready to be corrected. I certainly enjoyed
meeting and talking with all of you; I hope to hear from you all
again soon.
			Sincerely yours,

			(Mrs.) Lois Bebout
