June Gems from Jeanne

Chair's Column

This year is going to be an exciting and busy time for all who've volunteered to serve on the various committees of the Reference Roundtable. If any of you wish to serve on a committee, don't hesitate to ask!

The Reference Roundtable bylaws were in need of revision and many thanks to Susan Beck and her Ad Hoc Bylaws Committee for the work they have put into rewriting them. These revisions will be in the Fall newsletter and soon on the RRT web pages of the TLA web at www.txla.org/rrt/pubs/revbylaws.html. The current RRT Bylaws are available on the TLA web site now. Please see Susan's article in this newsletter for more information on this important project. The revised bylaws will be voted on at the RRT Business Meeting at next year's conference.

The RRT Web Committee continues working to expand the information which RRT members can find on the web. RRT is proud to announce that we were the FIRST Roundtable to have its web pages approved for the TLA web site. I want to thank Will Stuivenga for doing an outstanding job of making the RRT Newsletter available in HTML for inclusion on the web. Steve Self, Austin Community College, did the work so that the Bylaws are available from the web. Thanks, guys! If you have suggestions or information you'd like to see made available through the TLA-RRT web, please let us know. Contact me, Jeanne Pyle, at jpyle@ sfalib.sfasu.edu.

At next year's conference, the first Texas Reference Source Award will be made for an outstanding Texas Reference Work. Joyce Hopkins and her committee are working hard to make sure this is a special and valued award. The Bebout Award and Nominations committees will be asking for your nominations and assistance, so this is the chance for your to get involved! The new Ad Hoc Public Relations/Membership committee is working on ways to increase membership and get the word out about the benefits of RRT membership. Ron Glass will be hard at work to provide us with another excellent program at the spring conference in San Antonio.

Will Stuivenga did yet another exceptional job as editor of the RRT newsletter. I know we all appreciate the quality of work and effort that Will puts into our newsletter. Good job, Will!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped me with this year's program in Ft.Worth: Betty Thompson of Taylor Public Library, Karen Nichols of Lamar University, and Diane Downing of Texas A & M - Commerce. We all learned that in these exciting and changing times our greatest resource is each other. Thanks, too, to the program committee who helped with developing ideas and themes: Marty Turnage, Stephen F. Austin State University; Ann Jurabek, Sam Houston State University; Jack Becker and Susan Hildago, from Texas Tech University.

Annual Assembly promises to be a busy time. Please feel free to contact me or any of the RRT Board with ideas and suggestions how to make this group better.
