Author Jon Scieszka and illustrator Lane Smith
again join forces to take the reader to the limit of just pure
silliness. From the title page, entitled TITLE PAGE, to the
table of contents which comes crashing down, and to the Little Red
Hen questioning the presence of the ISBN number, Scieszka pokes
fun at the parts of the book. And all the while, unbeknownst to
the reader, the parts of the books are being taught. Scieszka's
words and Smith's illustrations then begin to turn some of our
most popular fairy tales upside-down. As narrator, Jack of
beanstalk fame takes the reader through such hilarity as "The Not
so Ugly Duckling," "Little Red Riding Shorts," and the ever
popular "The Stinky Cheese Man." Stir up those silly brain cells,
and you will laugh your way through this creative book.
