Selection Committee
The Bluebonnet
Selection Committee has as its primary charge to select the 20 books for
each year's Master List.
Ten members,
one from
each of the ten TLA districts, will serve three year terms. They will be
involved in the delivery of library services to children, will be
members of either CRT or TASL, and will be required to attend the TLA
conference, annual assembly, and an October selection meeting. Potential
members will apply for service on the committee through the chairs of
The Children’s Round Table (CRT) and TASL (Texas Association of School
Librarians).
The
Bluebonnet Selection Committee will be in charge of maintaining the
Master List. The duties will rotate among committee members and involve
the following:
- Committee
member responsible for author verification
- Committee
member responsible for compiling reviews from the list of suggested
titles
- Committee
member responsible for compiling reviews from The Bulletin of the
Center of Children’s Books, The Horn Book Magazine, and The
Horn Book Guide
- Committee
member responsible for compiling reviews from School Library
Journal
- Committee
member serving as Youth Participation liaison to the Program Committee

The
Bluebonnet Program Committee is charged with the responsibility of
creating programming and support for the Texas Bluebonnet Program. There
will be
ten members.
Members
must belong to either Children’s Round Table or the Texas Association of
School Librarians. They will attend annual meetings at the TLA
conference and Annual Assembly in July. Members will serve three-year
terms. Potential members will apply for service on the committee through
the chairs of The Children’s Round Table (CRT) and TASL (Texas
Association of School Librarians).
The
responsibilities of the Bluebonnet Program Committee are:
- to produce a
newsletter or an equivalent web version;
- to write,
edit, and produce a promotional video;
- to generate
publicity and press releases concerning the Bluebonnet Program;
- to create
Activities that promote the books; and
- to coordinate
youth participation at the Bluebonnet Luncheon.
Applicants
can indicate a preference for one or more of the above areas in which
they wish to work.
The video
subcommittee presently films in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and members
will be responsible for travel to this area during the Martin Luther
King holiday in January. In addition, one member of the video
subcommittee and one member of the activities subcommittee will be asked
to attend at least a portion of the October meeting of the Bluebonnet
Selection Committee.
