TPALS BOARD MEETING
TLA 2007 Annual Assembly
July 11, 2007

OPENING:
Meeting was called to order at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in Austin by Lisa Winter.

PRESENT:
Lisa Winter, Sandy Sharps, Cyndi Hughes, Chris Salerno, Cindy Boyle, Bonnie Walker, Kary Barth.

New Officers
Chair – Lisa Winter
Chair-elect – Greg Escue
Secretary/treasurer – Kary Barth
TPALS Golf organizer – Jay Blint

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
No recent minutes to approve.

NEW BUSINESS:
Lisa Winter, newly elected chair of TPALS emphasized the importance of re-vitalizing the TPALS organization.      

•  Current membership is only 27, down from over 100.

• Chris Salerno has volunteered to work on updating TPALS website.

• TPALS logo will be re-worked.

Primary discussion focused on activities and programs to be held at TLA Convention.

1.      TPALS will sponsor a vendor panel at TLA

                     – Title of this program, “Cash, Check or Charge?/Bid Navigation

The purpose of this program is to have both vendors and library personnel discuss the procurement process to facilitate better communication between vendors and prospective library customers.

Names of possible library participants included Cherry Fuller, region 11, Steve Seale, NETLS.  Other panelist from the local Dallas area will be considered.  Each speaker will be allotted a brief presentation time, followed by a Q & A session.

2.      TPALS will have an awards recognition luncheon/business meeting.
Lunch will be available for purchase.
Vendors are requested to bring one of their customers.
Ribbons will be presented for 3 different categories of longevity of membership.

3.      TPALS will have an additional presence at convention with a booth.  Will look into the possibility of having library science students for “booth duty”.

4.      TPALS will sponsor “rush hour” at Convention; only TPALS members can sponsor.

The positions of secretary and treasurer for TPALS will be combined into one position.

Kary Barth has been nominated and accepted this position.
