TASL is proud to announce the 2007 recipients of the AASL Scholarship and Travel Stipend.

Cindy Buchanan, Library Systems Administrator from Aldine ISD, has been member of TLA/TASL for 20 years and has served as an officer and on numerous committees in TLA and in TASL. She is the current chair of the Legislative Committee of the TASL, and recently served on the TLA Executive Board as a representative-at-large.

Carol Deviney, librarian at Murphy Middle School in Plano ISD, had been a member of TLA/TASL for 17 years. She has been active in District 5 serving as treasurer in 1998-2000, and is currently the TASL By-Laws Committee Chair and a member of the Resolutions Committee.


Application Information

The AASL (American Association of School Librarians) National Conference will be held in Reno, Nevada, October 25-28, 2007.  The Texas Association of School Librarians is providing a travel scholarship to a Texas school librarian to attend this powerful conference focused on school libraries.

To qualify: 

  1. Must be the attendees first AASL meeting
  2. Elementary, Middle, or High School librarians (public or private)
  3. Must be members of AASL and TASL at the time of the conference in October 2007
  4. Must be an active and involved member of TLA and TASL
  5. Have little or no travel funds available from your district
