Announcement of Recipient for 2007-2008 - Stella Farris,
Librarian, Lanier High School, Austin ISD
TASL is proud to announce that Stella Farris will receive
the TASL sponsored ALA Emerging Leaders travel stipend. Stella has been a
librarian at Lanier High School in Austin ISD, Austin, Texas since July 2006.
Prior to Lanier, Stella was a librarian in the San Diego City Schools and in La
Jolla, California. We are looking forward to working with and learning from this
"emerging leader."
Application Information
The Texas Association of School Librarians is providing a
scholarship to the Texas school librarian chosen as an Emerging Leader by the
American Library Association and the American Association of School Librarians.
Please read below for further information regarding
this ALA initiative.
If you have already completed an Emerging Leader
Application online, please send a copy of your application to the scholarship
chairman and the TASL chair listed below. If you are interested in completing an
application, please do so as soon as possible and forward a copy of the
application to Nicole Cruz and Mary Jo Humphreys. Below is detailed information

2008 ALA Emerging Leaders
application now available

When and where:
Friday, January 11, 2008 in
Philadelphia 8:30-5:00 and Friday, June 27, 2008 in Anaheim 8:30-5:00 with
virtual workgroups between the two sessions.
What:
Two workshop days with Maureen Sullivan and Connie Paul, participating in
projects, networking with 119 of your peers, getting an inside look into ALA
structure, and having an opportunity to serve your profession. Regular
conference fees apply. There is no additional cost to attend the Friday
programs.
Why:
To enable 120 new librarians to get on the fast track to ALA and professional
leadership.
Who:
Up to 120 participants (60 sponsored and 60 open)
1) ALA member, and
2) Young (under 35 years) or new librarians of any age with fewer than 5 years
post-MLS experience, and
3) Recent MLS degree from an ALA or NCATE accredited program or in an MLS
program currently, and
4) Able to attend both ALA conferences and work virtually in between, and
5) Ready to commit to serve on an ALA, Division, Chapter, or Round Table
committee, taskforce or workgroup upon completion of program.

Deadline for submission is August 15, 2007.
AASL will provide $1,000 in support to two Emerging Leaders for 2008. To apply
for AASL support, select the option from the drop down menu on the application
form. AASL Affiliate organizations and ALA chapters can also sponsor a
candidate. Contact these organizations directly to determine if support is
available.
