Sign on to the "Declaration for the Right to Libraries"
TLA member Kristi Betts has developed lesson plans to be used by school librarians for grades pre-K though grade 5. This would be a perfect curricular match for Constitution Day in September!
- Right to Libraries Lesson - Pre-K to Kindergarten
- Freedom to Choose - 1st to 2nd Grade
- Constitution and the Declaration for the Right to Libraries - 3rd to 5th Grade
The Texas Library Association Council passed a resolution at Annual Assembly on July 10 (2013) in support of the "Declaration for the Right to Libraries," an initiative of ALA President Barbara Striplng. Although the official launch of the campaign took place in Nashville in early August, TLA stepped out in front to hold a Declaration signing ceremony during Assembly to kick off Texas participation in the initiative. Read the text of the Declaration.
SIGN the Declaration
TLA is now actively collecting signatures from librarians and library supporters in Texas and is encouraging a signing in every library in the state. Signature sheets were circulated at Fall District Meetings, and an ELECTRONIC FORM is offered here to accept names to compile for additional sheets.
Join your colleagues in building momentum for a presentation to “hand over” the Texas signatures at Annual Conference in San Antonio in April. ALA President Barbara Stripling will be present to receive the signature pages from TLA President Yvonne Chandler.
