Mentoring Program

The Professional Issues and Ethics Committee sponsors a mentoring program that matches Texas residents who are considering a career in librarianship with experienced librarians who can answer questions about information careers and suggest relevant opportunities for career development and education. As a mentee, you will have contact with a passionate advocate who is eager to help you ignite your own passion for an information career. As a mentor, you will have an opportunity to help foster a new generation of professionals.

How to Participate

  • To be matched with a mentor librarians, submit a Mentee Application(BEING REVISED)
  • To volunteer as a mentor, submit a Mentor Application. (BEING REVISED)
  • Applications may be submitted at any time. Allow up to two weeks for processing.

Suggested Activities for Mentors

  • Use the Recruitment Toolkit for Texas Libraries as a starting point for career exploration and development.
  • Work with the mentee to develop goals and objectives to explore their career interests.
  • Share the story of your own library career and talk about other kinds of library careers.
  • Invite the mentee to visit you in the workplace and shadow you for a day.
  • Invite the mentee to attend a local conference or meeting.
  • Discuss volunteer and employment opportunities that will help the mentee achieve their goals.
