UNSOLICITED (NON-TLA UNITS) CONFERENCE PROGRAM PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

Program ideas and proposals are frequently submitted to TLA by the following individuals:

  • Librarians offering to conduct a program within their area of expertise
  • Representatives of companies exhibiting with TLA
  • Speakers and consultants
  • Speaker Bureau representatives
  • Publishers wishing to highlight authors as keynote speakers or panelists
  • Storytellers.

From these diverse sources, TLA is frequently overwhelmed with many wonderful program suggestions. However, because of limited meeting space in the convention centers and a comprehensive array of programs planned by the TLA units and the Conference Program Committee, it is extremely rare for TLA to accept a program proposal from any of the external groups noted.

Our first priority for program assignments goes to our units. Occasionally, vendors will partner with a TLA unit for sponsorship of a certain program; otherwise, there is not a venue for vendor-sponsored programs

In many cases, TLA will receive speaker promotional kits that include biographies, a list of published books, and references. In cases where a specific library program is planned, the Program Committee and/or unit program planners require the following information:

  • Title of the program
  • Desired length of the program (50 minutes, 80 minutes, 110 minutes)
  • Abstract (brief summary of the content to be covered)
  • Program objectives
  • Target audience
  • Speakers and their credentials for this session
  • AV or other special requirements
  • Cost

Timeline: The time frame for submitting program proposals is January 1 to June 1 to be considered for the next year’s conference. If your program is not selected, and you want to propose it again for the following year, a new proposal submission is required since proposals are not carried over from year to year.

TLA will notify individuals ONLY if their programs are accepted by a TLA unit or the Conference Program Committee. Written proposals should be no longer than one (1) page. The proposal and speaker promotional materials must be submitted electronically via email:
