The value of this text is the picture it presents of ethnic religiosity in Texas. Using case studies of 13 immigrant congregations, the authors explore: religious services, church structure, social services and community relations, role of women, and the second generation. This study reflects the ethnic changes in Houston over 30 years. As such, it provides a guide for how immigrants incorporate their culture with religion. Case studies describe the following communities: Vietnamese and Chinese Buddhist, Chinese Protestant, Korean Protestant, Hispanic Catholic, Hispanic Protestant, Greek Orthodox, Pakistani, Muslim, Indian Hindu, multi-ethnic Catholic, and Assembly of God. Since most communities in Texas comprise immigrant populations, this text provides data that gives insight into understanding religious diversity within ethnic groups.
