TLA Scholarships

Deadline for all scholarships listed here is January 31, 2015. If letters of reference are required, please check your application status online prior to the deadline to verify receipt.

To apply for any TLA scholarship listed here, complete the online application and submit no later than January 31, 2015. SAVE TIME: If you log in and access the form via the membership menu, some of the required information will autofill.

All applicants must be a member of  TLA.

Please list classes in which you are currently enrolled and classes you plan to take. If letters of reference are required, please check your application status online prior to the deadline to verify they have been received.

Ray C. Janeway Scholarship: $2,000

  • Texas resident
  • attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate program
  • accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program

TLA Summer School Scholarship: $500

  • Texas resident
  • attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program
  • must be registered for MLS degree courses during a summer session at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program  (While applicants may be enrolled year round, the scholarship applies only to the summer session.)

Van Dusen-Tobin-Kaiser Scholarship: $1,000 [Awarded in 2014]

  • Texas resident
  • pursuing graduate studies leading to a career as an elementary school or children's librarian
  • attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program
  • accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program
  • awarded in even-numbered years

Vivian Greenfield Education Award: $1,500

Provides funding for an educational endeavor reinforcing work with youth. This can include, but is not limited to, professional development activities (taking a course or attending a conference), implementing a new idea  in the workplace, performing a study, and more.

  • Awarded annually; award determination made in spring of each year
  • Awardee must:
    • Reside in Texas and be a TLA member in good standing
    • Write a goals statement outlining a desired educational endeavor revolving around youth services

Walter H. Escue Memorial Scholarship: $1,000

  • Texas resident
  • concentrating studies in Technical Services, Systems Administration, or  Library Automation
  • attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program
  • accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program
