As librarians, we know that the best way to protect children is to teach them how to stay safe. From teaching safe online practices to helping kids find the information that is best for them, librarians are in the business of helping kids learn to make good judgments. The Texas Library Association is pleased to join the
Texas First! Child Safety Partnership and help keep Texas children safer.
The Safe Side Company, in partnership with TLA, will provide each public
library in Texas two free child-safety DVDs on or around May 25, in
recognition of National Missing Children’s Day. The two award-winning videos, Stranger Safety and Internet Safety, were both developed for elementary aged children and provide safety information in an engaging, kid-friendly way. Both videos were developed in consultation with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and provide instruction on ways to discuss safety topics with children. The Safe Side Company was founded by John Walsh, host of America’s Most Wanted, and Julie Clark, creator of Baby Einstein. Earlier this year, The Safe Side announced a school donation program and provided a free Stranger Safety School Resource Kit to each of Texas’ 1037 independent school districts.
