Entry Deadline: All materials must be postmarked by Friday, January 18, 2019.

Each entry must be submitted in its own envelope, but several envelopes may be packaged together with a check for the entry fees. Make checks payable to the Texas Library Association. NO entries will be returned.

  1. The entry form is ONLINE! If you are mailing in an entry, please submit your form online and then either print the form (from your browser once you submit it) or print the verification email to include with the mailed entry.
  2. Submit a separate entry form for each project; at the bottom of the form, you will list only the students who worked on that particular project.
  3. You no longer have to include Student Work Release Forms or Copyright and Sponsor Certification Forms with the mailed entries. However, the Texas Youth Creators Awards Committee will assume that the sponsoring librarian has on record a Work Release Form and a Copyright Certification Form signed by both the student and the parent/guardian.

Entry Fee

  • for a single entry by 1-10 students, the fee is $10 
  • for a single entry by 11-20 students, the fee is $20 
  • for a single entry by 21-30 students, the fee is $30 
  • for a single entry by more than 30 students, contact the TYCA Committee

As the Texas Youth Creators Awards Program grows, we must adopt changes to accommodate the number and diversity of entries received. The Texas Youth Creators Awards Committee collects a nominal fee per sponsor to help defray the costs of awards and prizes. 

Contest Divisions

The following contest division guidelines are in Adobe PDF format. The Photography categories include both 35mm and Digital Photographs. 

Grade Levels

Judges will rate entries in four grade levels:


Group projects with mixed grade levels will compete in the higher grade-level category. 

Contest Rules

  1. Every entry must have a sponsoring public library, public school library, or private school library.
  2. Individuals or groups may submit entries.
  3. A sponsoring library may submit up to ten (10) entries per grade-level subdivision in each of the nine contest divisions.
  4. Participants may submit either one individual project or one group project in each contest division.
  5. Entries must adhere strictly to all applicable copyright laws and guidelines. The Texas Library Association reserves the right to disqualify any entry based on a reasonable belief that the entry has infringed the copyright laws of the U.S. or any other country.
  6. In accordance with United States copyright laws, some projects may not be eligible to be shown publicly during the awards ceremony.
  7. A bibliography must be submitted for each entry that is not orginal work.
  8. To ensure media can be viewed by judges and to assist you in mailing and supply costs, URLs are now accepted for Animation, Book Trailers, Digital Music, Multimedia, Video Production, and Coding.
  9. Entries must comply with specific contest division guidelines.
  10. Paperwork must be submitted and fees received by the deadline for an entry to be judged.
  11. Entries must have been initiated and completed between January 13, 2018 and January 17, 2019.

Because copyright exemptions may not apply to public performances in the same way that they apply to classroom use, the Texas Library Association reserves the right not to show an entry during the awards ceremony based on a reasonable belief that showing the entry may infringe the copyright laws of the U. S. or any other country.  

Judging & Awards

Qualified, impartial volunteers will serve as judges. The judges base their decisions on the criteria listed for each contest division. Judges will not evaluate contest divisions in which they may have assisted students with entry production. Awards may be given for first place, second place, third place, and honorable mention. At the discretion of the judges, awards may not be presented for every place in a contest division.

Each participant in a winning entry created by an individual or small group will receive an award ribbon. Classes that submit one entry will receive one award ribbon and certificate for the classroom, as well as individual certificates for each participant in the class. The most outstanding entry over all earns the Bob Bennett "Best of Show" Award. 

Presentation of the awards will be held at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference in Dallas on Friday, April 18, 2019. Winners will be announced in March 2019.

The decisions of the judges and the Texas Youth Creators Awards Committee are final.
