To assist you in completing the application for a Christina B. Woll Memorial Grant award, please review these questions concerning the guidelines:

Who can apply?

Any Texas public or school library that serves children 12 or under. Applicant must be a TLA member.

Can a current Woll Committee member or the member's affiliated school district, public or private library apply for a grant?

No, not during their tenure as a committee member. (Woll Committee members' names and institutions are listed on the Christina B. Memorial Fund webpage.)

What are some general application tips?

  • Read the entire application and all instructions before starting to prepare your responses.
  • Pre-composing your responses to paste into the online form is recommended; a hard copy version (doc) is available for your reference.
  • DO NOT omit any questions.
  • Clearly and concisely state the purpose of the project.
  • Be specific when explaining the project. Include the dollar amount for funding of your project as well as specific examples of the content or subject area or genre or series the grant money would be used for rather than a broad statement.
  • Have someone read your grant proposal before you submit it.

When/how will the grant applicants be notified of the committee's decisions?

  • Before Annual Conference registration is due.
  • The chair of the committee will notify the award recipients by phone, with follow-up official letter by mail.
  • All other applicants will be notified by the chair by email.

Will grant recipients receive formal recognition at Annual Conference?

  • Yes. Award winner(s) will be recognized at the Texas Bluebonnet Award luncheon. We encourage attendance (but it is not mandatory) by award recipients, but expenses CANNOT be paid by the committee to attend conference and/or the luncheon.
  • Reserved seating at the Texas Bluebonnet Award luncheon will be for only one person representing the Woll Grant library

How will the grant be administered if I successfully receive funding?

  • Recipients will furnish the Woll committee chair with a report detailing expenditure of the funds, accompanied by supporting documentation, such as invoices.
  • The check will be sent to the library once the Woll committee chair notifies the TLA office that they have received the proper documentation from the library.
  • TLA will furnish special bookplates for the books purchased through the grant.
  • Within six months of receipt of funding, use the evaluative measures indicated on the grant application to write a report to the current Woll chair detailing the impact of the grant on your library's collection.

Can a library reapply if it has been awarded a Christina B. Woll grant in the past?

Yes, but it must be 3 years since they were awarded the grant. Example: Award in 2012 can reapply in 2016.
